Sunday, November 21, 2021:

Oyster Bay United FC punched its ticket into the main draw of the 2022 Lamar US Open Cup with a comprehensive victory over a tough Westchester United squad. The teams had met earlier in the year with OBUFC coming up on top 4-2 behind a Sebastian Ruiz hat-trick and another goal by Junior Rosero.  Chris Ribet had a brace for the losing side in that match.

Both teams had their chances early on.  One particularly good opportunity was thwarted by OBUFC keeper JC Perez.  In the 29th minute, Oyster Bay moved the ball around well, with Dan Giorgi retaining possession in the corner, finding Davidson Marseille who crossed the ball and found the foot of Luis Altuve who poked it home past the keeper.  Brimming with confidence, ten minutes later Sebastian Ruiz converted a through ball down the center channel into a goal giving the visitors a 2-0 advantage.  Westchester would not go away quietly however.  Late in the first half, after winning a free kick, Chris Ribbet nodded home past our keeper to make the score 2-1.

OBUFC would answer back quickly in the second half with Ruiz finding Marseille who blasted a shot into the top left corner restoring OBUFC's two goal margin just a minute into the half.  OBUFC dominated possession in the second half and the attacking players on Westchester were clearing frustrated by the lack of service they received.  Late in the match Ruiz was taken down in the box leading to a Matthews Carriel penalty and goal which ended the scoring at 4-1.  Celebrations on the visiting side ensued after the whistle as the team accomplished their top goal of the season and quslified for the 2022 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup!

Team Owner and President, Mark Colacioppo had this to say after the match "...very excited for our club.  Qualifying for the US Open Cup was absolutely our number one priority for the season.  I honestly was not sure how realistic that goal was in our first full season together, but the boys hung tough, especially after dropping the conference final in tough fashion earlier in the week.  I couldn't be prouder of the team and what they were able to accomplish!"

The club is very exicted to see who we will draw in our first round matchup!
